Other Florida Baby travel advice

A few more hints and tips to help you plan your trip to Florida

Book through a tour operator so you know your hotel has been health and safety checked and satisfies certain security standards.

Always book with an ABTA bonded tour operator who will look after you in the unlikely event that your holiday is disrupted or your return flights cancelled.

If you are staying in a villa with crawling babies or toddlers, be careful to keep the doors shut between the villa and the pool as the pools tend to be annexed right onto the back of the villa.

To keep your luggage to a minimum, you can hire baby equipment online from a variety of companies in Florida.  If you are staying in a villa, Travel City Direct works with a company called Jet Set Babies in Orlando which allows you to pre-order all your baby products on line before you leave the UK and have them waiting for you in your villa centre on arrival.  You can pick it all up when you pick up your keys.  See www.jetsetbabies.com.

Baby supplies can be bought from various outlets in Orlando.  Head to Walgreens on International Drive (a bit like Boots), or try Publix, CVS, Goodings or Walmart.  You can buy nappies, wipes, jars of food, healthy snacks etc and prices are roughly the same as in the UK.  Nappies are labelled by age range and weight. You can also buy baby supplies at Disney hotels and at the Baby Care Centers in the parks, but the range is limited and slightly more expensive.

When you make your booking with your tour operator, pre-book a cot if you need one.  These are on request, and, although they are not guaranteed, it’s unlikely they will not be able to meet your request.  When you check in, ask for it again as most hotels do not put cots in the room until you have checked in.  To avoid confusion, ask for a ‘crib’.  The word ‘cot’ in the States means a rollaway bed (for which there is always a charge).  Cribs are almost always free of charge.

If you want to take your own travel cot, you can check this in as luggage. Travel cots are quite tricky to package so don’t forget to take the tape with you to pack it up again for the return.

If your baby requires medication which has to be refrigerated, advise your airline before you travel.  Most hotels will accommodate medicines in the fridge at no extra charge, but it is worth checking before you go.
