When should I rent my car and what sort of car should I book?

The best thing to do is to book your car with your holiday.  With Travel City Direct, the cost of your holiday includes a rental car for the duration of your stay. This also includes all the insurances you need plus the compulsory taxes and airport fees you would normally have to pay locally.  This may not be the same for all tour operators, so check when you make your booking.

If your car hire is included with your holiday, you will be offered a car which suits the needs of your party.  If you are travelling with babies, you might have more than the usual amount of luggage, or you might just want a bit more space.  If you are travelling as a large party, you might consider upgrading to a minivan so you can all travel together in one vehicle.  This will save you fuel and toll charges, and is, of course, better for the environment.  You can make all these choices at the time of booking, either on line or on the phone to your tour operator.  There will be charges applicable if your request constitutes an upgrade from the standard allocated vehicle(s).

Dollar Rent a Car at Orlando Airport now offers you the chance to actually choose your car.  You can select the make, model and even the colour of the car from the row of the car type you have booked.  Perhaps you can let your kids pick their favourite colour?

Driving ages and additional drivers

You have to be 21 to rent a car in Florida.  If you are aged between 21 and 24, you will have to pay a Young Driver surcharge – over 25 and there’s no charge. Young driver surcharges and additional driver charges are paid for locally when you get to Orlando.
