What’s the law around car seats in Florida?
All children under the age of four must be secured in a federally approved child restraint seat (that’s a car seat to you and me!). Children over four can wear seatbelts. Just like in the UK, it is a legal requirement for adults to wear a seatbelt in Florida.
At Dollar, we stock two types of car seat, front and rear facing. Front facing seats are suitable for babies and infants, but we know the British are used to carrying small babies in rear facing car seats. Rear facing seat supplies are a bit more limited than front facing so, if you feel you absolutely must have a rear facing car seat for your baby, you should consider bringing one with you. There are large supplies of front facing seats, so there’s no need to worry that there won’t be one available when you arrive. Strictly speaking, car seat availability is never guaranteed, but we have yet to encounter an incident where a seat was not available for a Travel City Direct customer who as pre-booked one.
You should book your car seats before you travel, but these will be charged for locally. Prices are around $9 per day plus tax. Tell your tour operator the ages of your children, and the correct car seats will be allocated.
Will the car seat be in good condition and will you help me fit it?
All the car seats used by Dollar Rent a Car are in good condition and checked regularly. We give you the car seat cleaned and wrapped in polythene. We aren’t able to help you fit your car seat as we are not insured to do so (that’s the same with all car hire in Orlando, Florida), but there are instructions clearly printed on the side of the seats and it’s very simple.
The car seat will be given to you in the garage near your car. Don’t worry, you won’t have to carry your car seat from the check-in desk.
